Beyond identifying data, DataRight IQ makes it consistent and adds valuable new information to each record.

Standardization

Standardization makes your records consistent from one to the next - a prerequisite for reliable searching, reporting, and matching. DataRight IQ standardizes values as it parses them.

  • Common business words - consistently applied (for example, "Incorporated" becomes "Inc.").
  • Job-title words - standardized to consistent forms.
  • Acronyms - recognized firm names and phrases converted to widely accepted acronyms (for example, General Motors -> GM, or Chief Executive Officer -> CEO). DataRight IQ only applies genuine, accepted acronyms - it never invents initialisms.
  • Punctuation - cleaned up for consistency, with control over what is retained.

Intelligent casing

DataRight IQ offers upper, mixed, and lower casing, plus the option to preserve the original. Its mixed-case logic is context-aware: it goes beyond simply capitalizing first letters.

  • Keeps genuine uppercase terms uppercase (for example, IBM).
  • Keeps minor words lowercase where appropriate (for example, "of" and "or").
  • Handles internal capitals correctly (for example, McKay).
  • Considers how a word is used - distinguishing, for instance, the postname "M.S." from the prename "Ms."
Note: Casing can be tailored further with a custom capitalization dictionary to reflect your organization's preferred forms.

Address standardization

DataRight IQ can standardize last-line (city, state, ZIP) data to improve consistency and fill gaps:

  • Standardize state names to their U.S. Postal Service abbreviations (for example, Wisc. -> WI).
  • Fill in or correct city and state based on the ZIP Code.
  • Assign a default ZIP Code when one is missing or invalid for the city and state.
  • Convert non-mailing ("vanity") city names to the preferred post-office city name.
Important: This is standardization for consistency, not certified postal validation. Some cities have more than one ZIP Code, so an assigned default may not be the exact mailing ZIP. For certified USPS CASS validation, ZIP+4, and geocoding, use Address IQ Realtime Services alongside DataRight IQ.

Enrichment

DataRight IQ can generate valuable new data and add it to each record.

Gender codes

A precise gender code is assigned to each name, across several confidence levels - strong male, strong female, weak male, weak female, and ambiguous.

Prenames

When gender is determined with confidence, DataRight IQ can add an appropriate prename - Mr., Ms., or Mrs.

Personalized greetings

DataRight IQ generates salutations in multiple styles, both for each individual and for the record as a whole, including multi-name greetings:

  • Formal - "Dear Mr. Shakespeare"
  • Casual - "Dear William"
  • Title - "Dear Playwright"

Greeting wording and punctuation are customizable, so you can produce styles such as "Greetings, William!" to match your brand voice.

Match standards

DataRight IQ can generate match standards - alternate forms of first and middle names - to improve matching. For example, it recognizes that "Pat" may correspond to "Patrick" or "Patricia," helping overcome nicknames and alternate spellings during deduplication.

Data-quality scores & codes

As it processes each record, DataRight IQ produces confidence scores and quality codes for the data it identifies. These give you a measurable signal of data quality that you can act on downstream.
