Address Validation & Correction
Verify, correct, and standardize U.S. addresses against official postal data - the foundation for deliverable mail and trustworthy data.
Address hygiene
At its core, Address IQ makes sure your address data is correct and complete. It verifies that the city, state, and ZIP Code agree with one another and reconciles them when they don't - if you have only a city and state, it can usually add the ZIP Code, and vice versa. It corrects misspelled street names, fills in missing components, and removes unnecessary punctuation.

Standardization
Standardization makes every address follow a single, consistent, USPS-aligned format. Address IQ gives you control over how the standardized output looks, including:
- Casing - output in the mixed case or uppercase style you prefer.
- Directionals & suffixes - apply a consistent style (for example, N vs. North, St vs. Street).
- Unit designators - standardize secondary-unit terms such as APT and STE.
- Abbreviations - apply USPS street and city abbreviations where needed to fit standard label lengths.
- Component layout - rearrange and recombine multiline addresses into a compact, readable block, or split them into discrete fields.
Deliverability & flawed addresses
Beyond formatting, Address IQ helps you tell good addresses from bad ones. It can identify undeliverable locations - vacant lots, condemned buildings, and other addresses unsuitable for mail delivery - and assigns diagnostic codes that explain why a record was corrected or could not be assigned.
ZIP Code realignment
When the USPS opens or closes a post office, or activates a new ZIP Code, existing addresses can be reassigned. Address IQ recognizes these changes and updates affected records - which may change the ZIP Code, and sometimes the city name or box number as well. The result can look surprising, but it is a correct standardization that keeps mail deliverable.

Special cases
- Puerto Rico addresses - Address IQ recognizes and standardizes urbanization ("URB") information used in Puerto Rico addressing.
- Dual addresses - when a record contains both a street address and a PO Box, Address IQ can handle the pair and standardize the layout consistently.
- Sparse input - with even limited input, a valid postal code can be enough for Address IQ to assign the city and state and correct the rest.
Preparing data for matching
Standardized, component-level addresses are far easier to match. By correcting typos and breaking an address into discrete parts - separating the house number from the street name, for example - Address IQ lets matching software compare like with like, so you find the matches you should and avoid the ones you shouldn't.
