Postal Certifications & Enhancements

Address IQ layers the USPS's certified enhancement programs on top of address validation - confirming deliverability, adding valuable attributes, and unlocking postage discounts.

CASS™

Address IQ is CASS Certified™ (Coding Accuracy Support System) by the USPS. CASS is the standard that measures how accurately software matches and corrects addresses, and it's the basis for the USPS Form 3553 that mailers submit to claim automation discounts. Address validation runs as a certified, integral part of every job.

DPV®

Delivery Point Validation (DPV) confirms whether an address is an actual, deliverable delivery point - not just a valid ZIP+4 range. It catches addresses that look correct but don't really exist, and it flags conditions such as vacant addresses and locations that receive no mail statistics, so you can suppress questionable records before you mail.

NCOALink®

Through the integrated Mover IQ component, Address IQ performs NCOALink processing to update addresses for people and businesses that have moved, using the USPS change-of-address database. Move update keeps your list current, reduces undeliverable-as-addressed mail, and satisfies USPS move-update requirements for automation pricing.

Note: NCOALink is a USPS licensed service. Move-update processing requires the appropriate USPS licensing and agreements, which your Firstlogic team can help you arrange. Mover IQ is documented and licensed separately.

DSF2®

DSF2 (Second-Generation Delivery Sequence File) validates addresses against the USPS delivery file and adds two kinds of value:

  • Delivery-sequence information for walk-sequence presorting, which qualifies mailings for additional postage discounts.
  • Address attributes - such as business vs. residential, seasonal, and drop delivery - that let you build more targeted mailings.
Note: DSF2 is a USPS licensed service available to certified DSF2 licensees.

RDI™

Residential Delivery Indicator (RDI) identifies whether a deliverable address is a residence or a business. This is especially valuable to parcel shippers: because some carriers add surcharges for residential delivery, knowing an address is residential can inform the most cost-effective shipping choice.

eLOT® & EWS™

  • eLOT (Enhanced Line of Travel) provides the approximate order in which mail is delivered along a carrier route, supporting the sortation needed for enhanced carrier-route discounts.
  • EWS (Early Warning System) recognizes brand-new addresses that are valid but not yet in the current reference data, preventing them from being incorrectly rejected.

Postal automation & discounts

Taken together, these programs let Address IQ assign the full range of postal-automation codes - ZIP+4, delivery point, carrier route, and line-of-travel - that qualify mail for the lowest available postage rates. Even when you aren't standardizing for appearance, these codes support barcoding and presorting to earn automation discounts.
